PD Dr. Michael Knittler
From 1983 to 1990, Michael Knittler studied Biology in Cologne and, in 1994, received his PhD in Biology, which he did at the Institute of Immunology. From 1994 to 1995, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the BZH at the University of Heidelberg. Afterwards, from 1995 to 1999, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Cell Genetics, Institute for Genetics, University of Cologne and was the leader of the group between 2000 and 2006. He habilitated at the University of Cologne in 2003 and since 2006, he is head of the Laboratory for Cellular Immunity and Immune Evasion at the Institute of Immunology, Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute, former located in Tübingen, now in Greifswald – Isle of Riems. He was awarded with the lecturer award in 2005 and 2006. In 2013, he transferred his habilitation to the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald. His main focus of research is laid on cellular immunity and immune evasion. Currently he performs biochemical and biological research on MHC class-mediated antigen presentation using the model of viruses and bacteria.
